Rescue teams successfully raised the sunken superyacht belonging to British tech magnate Mike Lynch on Saturday, June 21, nearly ten months after it went down off the coast of Sicily, tragically claiming the lives of Lynch, his teenage daughter, and five others.
Work restarted at dawn using one of Europe’s most powerful marine cranes to lift the 56-meter yacht, named Bayesian, from a depth of 50 meters.
The upper decks showed severe damage, while the yacht’s blue hull was coated in silt. TMC Marine, the company overseeing the salvage, reported that the vessel will remain afloat throughout the weekend for inspection and preparation.
Dutch experts from Hebo Maritiemservice, who conducted the lift, took part in the operation. The yacht is scheduled to be transported to the nearby port of Termini Imerese on Monday, June 23, where it will be handed over to authorities investigating the tragedy’s cause.
The salvage operation began in May but was briefly paused following the death of a diver. A revised salvage plan received approval last week.
