Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was shocked by Republican Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during the “Saturday Dialogues” program.
Fico shared that he saw Zelensky at a meeting of European leaders in Budapest, where the Ukrainian president appeared to him as someone “afraid of the end of the war.”
President Zelensky is shocked by Trump’s victory and the possibility that U.S. aid might stop, – explained the Slovak prime minister.
Fico linked Zelensky’s concerns to the fact that he “lacks a political mandate,” and Ukraine is relying on “huge financial loans.” At the same time, the Slovak prime minister described Trump’s statements about his intention to end the fighting in Ukraine within a single day as “campaign rhetoric.” According to Fico, it is “very difficult to end a military conflict in just 24 hours.”
Nevertheless, the Slovak prime minister expressed confidence that Trump would want to demonstrate certain results from his actions—specifically, he may reduce support for Kyiv.
