Slovakia calls for diplomatic solution to Ukraine conflict

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár stated that diplomacy must once again become the primary tool for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

According to him, the first step should be a ceasefire, followed by peace negotiations. Blanár, who is in Brazil on an official visit leading a delegation with Prime Minister Robert Fico, noted that his talks with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira revealed shared views on many global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that diplomatic efforts so far have not yielded the desired results.

Diplomacy must return to resolving the conflict in Ukraine, starting with a ceasefire, and then moving to peace negotiations. This is the only path for Ukraine, Blanár said.

The minister also expressed the view that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and stated that those who believe it is possible to defeat a nuclear power are mistaken.
