An investigation has been launched in the UK into a major power outage that affected Heathrow Airport

The UK government has decided to conduct an urgent investigation into the power outage that impacted London’s Heathrow Airport and the surrounding areas.

Ed Miliband, the UK’s Minister for Energy Security, announced this on the social media platform X. He emphasized that the government is fully committed to understanding the causes of the incident and learning the necessary lessons.

The investigation will be conducted by NESO, the National Grid’s independent electricity system operator. The government is also working with the national regulator, Ofgem.

The first findings from NESO are expected to be presented within six weeks.

On Friday, March 21, Heathrow Airport completely suspended its operations due to a major power outage caused by a fire at a nearby substation. This led to the cancellation of over 1,300 flights.

The UK’s counterterrorism police are investigating the cause of the fire.
