U.S. sets demands in ‘peace proposals’ to Russia over Ukraine

The U.S. is set to demand that Russia recognize Ukraine’s right to maintain its own armed forces and defense industry as part of a broader peace agreement with Russia, according to sources familiar with the matter, who spoke to Bloomberg.

The sources revealed that U.S. Special Envoy to President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, plans to bring up this issue during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Additionally, the U.S. is pushing for Russia to return control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine. Under the plan proposed by the Trump administration, the plant would be placed under American control, enabling it to supply electricity to both Ukrainian-held cities and areas under Russian occupation, the sources stated.

The U.S. is also demanding that Ukraine regain control of its access to the Dnieper River and recover territories in the Kharkiv region currently occupied by Russian forces.

Representatives from the U.S. National Security Council, the State Department, and Steve Witkoff’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
