Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that his country does not intend to leave the European Union.
According to him, despite ongoing disagreements with Brussels, Hungary prefers to remain in the EU in order to continue defending its national interests.
Even though the wind is blowing against us now, I have not given up on the idea that, with the right form of cooperation, European countries can achieve mutual benefit, Orban said during a speech in the town of Ráckeve. His remarks were broadcast on Facebook.
He added that he does not advocate for Hungary’s exit from the EU, even though other countries might follow suit if such a step were taken. However, in his view, this scenario would not be beneficial.
Orban emphasized that Hungary’s priority remains staying within the European Union while firmly defending Hungarian sovereignty and interests.
Previously, Orban criticized the EU’s current policies, claiming that if Brussels continues its current economic course, the Union is doomed to collapse. He predicted that without fundamental reforms — including replacing liberal elites with patriotic governments — the EU has only two to three years before it begins to disintegrate “before our eyes.”
