Trump adviser Mike Waltz: US may resume military aid to Ukraine after peace talks kick off

U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated in an interview with Fox News that President Donald Trump will consider resuming military aid to Ukraine if peace talks are organized and trust-building measures are taken.

According to Waltz, if progress can be made in negotiations and trust-building measures are proposed, the U.S. president will be ready to lift the pause in aid.

U.S. military assistance was suspended following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the White House on February 28. The meeting was expected to result in an agreement on joint development of Ukraine’s rare minerals and hydrocarbon resources, which Trump described as a crucial step toward peace between Ukraine and Russia. However, the meeting in the Oval Office turned into a heated argument: Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance stated that Zelensky should show more gratitude for U.S. support and was not in a position to make demands.

Later, Trump revealed that he had received a letter from Zelensky, in which he expressed his readiness for peace talks and to sign an agreement on resource extraction “at any time.”

Zelensky, for his part, expressed that the meeting did not go as expected and confirmed his willingness to engage in peace talks. He stated that his team is ready to work under Trump’s leadership to achieve a lasting peace.
